Crash crash crash

Very easy app to use, but wait for new version until they fix crash problem. It will stop working when you use other apps

Great!

Straightforward, no b.s, no ugly ads, great use of screen real estate. I love this app. Havent figured out offline maps yet, but havent needed that. I can walk with logging on, and it fills in the map when I have wifi or coverage. Even allows for uploading to a web map or just save trips in app. You can import saved trips back in to analyze later. The best kind of app. No crashes on iOS 6 for me. "Just works".

Not reliable

This is the first app I have found that records and displays the paths I follow. That is the only reason I give it 3 stars. Unfortunately, its organization is a bit confusing, making it unnecessarily difficult to use. And just today, at the end of a walk, it crashed and lost all the information collected during the walk. Id say its a good idea poorly executed.

user

having a hard time using this app i cant seem to see my pace, or share my trip info the GPS is fairly acurate and its a low battery user so wish it worked a little easyer

Works

Working in the rural parts of the county, I use this program every time I am in the field. It works great for creating a track while driving and putting waypoints is a simple “tap”. Uploading to Everytrail or to Cartographica is a snap. Good work!

Lots of features

This is a very capable app and works well except for hiking distance on my iPhone 4S with ios 7.0.4. The hiking distance is about 1.26 times the actual distance. In a straight line on the highway, it was exactly correct for 2.5 miles!!! It is accurate on a friends iphone. I dont know the model of his phone. This is a weird anomaly and can probably be fixed easily.

excellent gps app

using this app on a 4S with ios7. did a comparison with my older garmin 60csx which is superb for gps...gps hiker data is just about the same quality. this nice program automatically saves your track as a gpx file..this app give you a bar on top that appears once the iphone establishes gps signal (alot of apps dont) because simply clicking on a gps is not establishing connection takes about 30 sec usually. anyway, i love this app now after confirming against the garmin, so sadly the garmin wont go outside anymore. oh i think the naming of tracks could be improved, i would rather the program just establish a numbered list of saved tracks based on date which i can rename later, i dont know what to call some track when im done riding or hiking as im too beat. this app is a nice little gem. oh and the track point frequency can be changed, although 5 sec is pretty short, i wish to have 1 sec and 2 min options but its not a big deal

Kamran

Great app. Did exactly what it says.

Great app

Easy to use and did exactly what I wanted: tracks and documents were we wander

Nice app

I use it on hiking, biking, road trip or even shopping. I can always find the trail I hike and how many mile. It is easy to save the trip locally and retrieve the trail in the pass.

Honoring licenses

Clearly this tool is heavily used by the people who wrote it. Very nice, and very usable. Lots of features. The the photos to go with waypoints are surpassed only by the offline maps which is an absolute must in an app like this. The licenses for software libraries and especially map data almost guarantee that this tool cant be sold, so kudos to the authors for writing it anyways. Many thanks for a very nice tool.

Outstanding!

This app is outstanding. It takes some time to learn the interface and all the functionality, but once you get the hang of it, nothing comes close. I use it for both mountain biking and hiking. I run Strava and a couple other bike apps and the elevation numbers are always suspect. I use GPS Hiker for tracking distance as well as elevation and compare to the bike apps. The distance is always close, but the GPS Hiker elevation numbers are much more accurate, i.e., reasonable based on known elevation levels. On a couple occasions the track recorded was a straight line between two points, but I believe it was because the app paused because I stopped for an extended period of time or lost the GPS signal when I was in a covered location and the GPS automatically turned off to save battery. One of the best features of the app is the ability to import and export track data. I build rides and hikes with Google Earth and import the GPX file into the app to track my position on a new route. Offline maps can be downloaded and used with the imported GPX file when off the grid. Rides and hikes can be saved within the app and exported to other apps including Google Earth. Its hard to believe the app is free. I was not expecting all the functionality provided. This app is a must have for hikers and bikers.

Very good!

This is a great app. I like it so much, it doesnt even bug me that much that it does not sync with other health apps, like myfitnespal. If Mr Chu find time/resources to add that functionality for 2 to 5 bucks, Ill pay for it! Cause I love this app!

Great!

This is great. I really wish they would have an update that included an Apple Watch app. It would be great to glance at your watch to start/stop/pause, look at map and heading info, etc.

Best hiking app

The best hiking app and its free. Ive used it on various hiking trips. I take advantage of the offline maps/download maps feature which has been a life saver. Thanks!

Best!

This is the most useful app for hiking! No ads! Love this app!

Lots of functionality

I downloaded this app before going on a business trip. I used it to follow the track of my flight from Denver to Las Vegas, which went over the magnificent landscape of southern Utah. I found that I had to experiment with the app to discover its features. After connecting to my phone’s GPS receiver, by tapping an icon on the main screen the app starts logging latitude, longitude and altitude as well as velocity (speed & direction). Touch the camera icon to enable taking a photo which is geotagged and displayed as a marker on the track. You may also add additional markers by tapping a different icon. You may save the log at the end of the trip. The log is stored as a .gpx formatted text file.I was able to drag and drop this file into Google Earth on my Mac. Even though I was not connected to the Internet while I was in the air, it displayed a fairly detailed map. (There is a screen that suggests one may upload some maps into the app, but it isn’t clear to me how this works.) All in all a great app that takes a few minutes to figure out 80% of its capabilities.

usefull

I am a civil engineer and use GPS hiker in field investigations. it is so usefull because of its ability to save every point, add pictures and transfer its out to my email and import it by googe erath.

App requires location services to Always be on

I chose not to use app because of this. I dont want my location to be tracked always.
